Antonio López de Ávila
Antonio López de Ávila has been an expert in Strategic Innovation in Smart Tourism and Smart Destinations for more than two decades. Antonio was Special Advisor on Innovation and Technology of the UNWTO Secretary General in 2017.
He was President-CEO of SEGITTUR from 2012 to 2017, leading the Smart Destination Initiative, a global and revolutionary initiative that changed the way of planning the strategy in Tourism based on innovation, technology, sustainability, accessibility and governance.
Thanks to this initiative, Spain was the first country to include the “Smart” concept in it's National Strategic Tourism Plan. We launched projects throughout the country and developed the first intelligent Smart Tourism system for a country.
As a founding partner of 5 companies, Antonio understands the needs of entrepreneurs. With his experience in SEGITTUR he created the Spanish Tourism Entrepreneur Network (Red Innpulsa) and the Emprendetur Finance Program of the Secretary of State of Tourism that financed around 400 start-ups and companies with more than € 80M.
Antonio also worked at the IE Business School (www.ie.edu). As an academic, he focused on various research areas in Tourism Innovation, including the development of tourism products and destinations and the application of cutting-edge technologies for both the public and private sectors.
