5.4 vs 5.3 template development cagematch

Published on June 15, 2015 by Christopher Zimmermann

Well the 2015 Magnolia Conference in Basel was awesome. It was a real pleasure spending a little time with the Mag community face to face.

Its always cool to see the amazing projects that people are doing with Magnolia and to see where people are innovating on the platform. There were several jaw-dropping presentations from our partners. Thanks for those.

Well the videos for those presentations will eventually be available to the public in the coming months. But from the developer team here at Magnolia, we couldn’t wait & wanted to share a short clip we put together for one of our talks: ”Front-end developers: build Magnolia sites faster”.

OK, the title of this blog post is a little confrontational. We still love you 5.3. :) But we wanted to emphasize the benefits that the Light Development features will bring in 5.4. (5.4 is currently in beta.) This video shows the practical application of the features Mikaël presented in his post in April.

Just for fun, the video uses the time to complete an action as a metric. But there are actually several important benefits to the new approach – including being easier to learn and use.

A shout out is in order to Rich and Natascha for their help on this!

The video is a bit long, but I think it rewards the watcher with useful insights on Magnolia development now & to come.
