Magnolia, the open source content management vendor that delivers simplicity on an enterprise scale, today announced that it has picked Vaadin web framework as the basis for the new user interface for Magnolia 5.0. The slick new user interface will employ next-generation technology that cuts development time by partners and Java developers by up to 50 percent.

With the Vaadin web framework, Magnolia 5.0 will deliver the most advanced and intuitive open-source web CMS available on the market today.

Full support for touch, mouse, and keyboard input keeps Magnolia abreast of the latest iPad and other touch devices that are replacing desktops and laptops. Vaadin enables the Magnolia community to write extensions in a truly modular fashion, with shared components and pure Java packaging for a consistent user experience.

One of our supporters recently wrote, ‘I am totally impressed with Vaadin – now someone just needs to come up with an Open Source CMS with it!’ I’m pleased to announce that their wait is coming to an end – we are extremely excited by the prospect of Magnolia 5.0. Our combined resources promise to take user-friendly, open source CMS development to a whole new level.

Joonas Lehtinen, CEO Vaadin

We anticipate that our new Vaadin-based interface in Magnolia 5.0 will lead to an prospective outpouring of creative, user-friendly applications and modules, especially now that no JavaScript coding is required.

We conducted a rigorous review and testing process in selecting the underlying technology for our next-generation, open source web CMS – employing such criteria as agility, security, efficiency, theming, collaboration, and community backing – and found that Vaadin consistently scored at or near the top.
